The works of Casa Museo

Quaderno 1

Casa Museo Boschi Di Stefano, as we see it today reflects only minimally what the collection looked like originally, when the Boschis lived here and entertained artists, intellectuals and friends during their regular cultural evenings. The uninterrupted sequence of works that ran from room to room, closely juxtaposed as if to challenge the visitor to recognize an artist, trace a new itinerary or associate images, is no longer to be seen, nor would it suit a public venue. The display as it was then, despite the apparent randomness that is visible in Gabriele Basilico’s photographs from the 1980s, had in fact an internal logic, a rationale of combinations and groupings that gave consistency to a collection that would grow in time till the apartment in Via Giorgio Jan could no longer contain it. However Antonio Boschi never ceased to add new items, no matter if it meant cramming the storage closets, the laundry and corridors, where paintings rested against the walls with the latest acquisitions towering on top. Over two thousand works were collected by Antonio and Marieda Boschi during a lifetime spent together, whose soundest basis was perhaps the passion for art the two shared.
