The Foundation
Fondazione Boschi Di Stefano was established in 1998
thanks to an agreement reached between the Boschi heirs and the Municipality of Milan. This agreement was made to ensure the fulfillment of engineer Antonio Boschi’s testamentary wishes. He had donated his extraordinary collection to the Municipality and desired for a selection of the works to be re-housed in the home where he had lived with his wife, Marieda Di Stefano.
In collaboration with Philippe Daverio, the Municipal Councillor for Culture, an agreement was reached to create a Foundation that would be equally administered by representatives of the Municipality and representatives of the family. These representatives were joined by the Director of the Civic Art Collections, at the time Dr. Maria Teresa Fiorio, who was responsible for the current selection and exhibition arrangement of the collection.
From its establishment in 1998 until April 2023, the Foundation was presided over by lawyer Ezio Antonini, an energetic and tireless defender of the Boschi Di Stefano family’s and heirs’ wish to see the most important 20th-century art collection owned by the city of Milan exhibited to the public, in the house where it was born and grew.
The Foundation has provided for the installation of security systems and the restoration of the house, overseen by architect Cristiana Vannini. It also managed the acquisition of furnishings (with the consultancy of Marco Arosio), consistent with the style of the building and the various artistic periods gathered therein.
Among the aims of the Foundation are: promoting cultural initiatives focused on the study and dissemination of art collecting and the recovery of historical archives, organization of events and their communication, providing a consultancy service for university students and scholars.

Il Museo che Sale (The Museum that Ascends)
Thanks to the contribution of Fondazione Cariplo, Fondazione Boschi Di Stefano is committed to managing the project “IL MUSEO CHE SALE – Casa Museo Boschi Di Stefano between creative hub and urban regeneration” in partnership with the Municipality of Milan.
This project, serving Casa Museo Boschi Di Stefano, has allowed for:
- improving accessibility through the installation of a retractable elevating platform for people with motor disabilities or reduced mobility
- creating a new cultural program, “Il Museo della porta accanto” (The Museum Next Door), which includes educational activities for schools, artist workshops, and targeted communication, also through the use of digital technologies and tools.
